Faeland

Faeland, also known as the Fae Realms, is located on the east coast of Robert E. Howard’s Hyborian Age setting, though of course can be placed in any setting.

Races

The Fae Realms are primarily populated by fae (fairy) races such as dryads, elves, dwarves, gnomes, and fairies. Other races present include the dragonborn and tieflings.

Nations

Several Kingdoms make up the Fae Realms. They are generally allied with each other, do frequent trade, and cooperate in times of war (with outsiders).

Alara

Considered to be the home of the dragonborn and a small population of tieflings, this is one of the larger realms of the Fae, and is a coastal kingdom. Alara is ruled by Queen Madison, a human female from Earth. Little is known about the ruler, but it is believed she is a mortal aspect of Tiamat.

Clover Cove

Clover Cove is a small nation of halflings, and is ruled by another Earthling, possibly related to Queen Madison.

• Ruler: Princess Clover

Erlund

The kingdom of the fairies is ruled by a daughter ofQueen Madison, so is a human from Earth. The capital city of Amanin does frequent trade with Wendar and Celdai.

Ilflund

This is the elven homeland, and a large trading centre on the east coast. The capital city of Wendar boasts a large port with ships travelling across the ocean to far off lands. Ilfund is ruled by the wife of Queen Madison.

There are some special locations in the Fae Realms that can’t be found elsewhere.

Ruins of Asgen

This old temple is at least 1,000 years old, and can be found across the river east of Woodgate in Alara. Selene, Queen Madison's sorceress has been studying the ruins, and has determined that the temple was used by an old magic-user cult who worshipped Tiamat many years ago. There are rumours that a demon is living in the lower levels of the ruins. Some say they can hear chanting in the night from across the river in Woodgate, suggesting that a cult may be using the temple still. There are also rumors suggesting that the temple may have gateways to other dimensions and planes.

Misthaven

Misthaven is the capital of Alara, and the second largest city in the Fae Realms. The city’s main port sees a large amount of ship traffic from far off cities, 90% being the other Fae Realms coastal cities, but also from further south. The Asgen river flows from the north bringing small boat traffic and trade from the town of Woodgate. Products from the north include lumber, farm goods, and ores from the mines. Misthaven boasts a large university called the Misthaven Academy, which is renowned throughout the Fae Realms for its history of higher learning. Famous instructors at the school include Thalia Hindrock (now Headmistress), and Sesra Olivin who teaches the history of the Fae Realms. Sesra has travelled extensively throughout the known world, and loves to teach about far off lands.

Tesia

The northernmost city of Alara is a small town which trades with Wendar and Amanin. At least 50% of the population here are tieflings from Jaffar.

Woodgate

North of Misthaven along the Asgen river is the town of Woodgate. This town is the centre of the mining and forestry industry in Alara.

The Fae Realms are home to some important people, here we take a look at the rulers of the nations and other important characters. In this section we take a look at important NPC’s (non-player characters) that call this part of the world home.

Queen Madison (Irenherl Greatwillow)

Queen Madison rules over the kingdom of Alara from her elegant palace in Misthaven. Legend says that she and her wife Rael, discovered a portal from Earth to a hidden temple to the east of Woodgate. She is of Native American ancestry, and is considered two-spirit on her world.

Queen Rael

The wife of Queen Madison, Rael is of African ancestry, and is one of the few people who know how to travel between Earth and the Fae Realms.

Princess Erin

Princess Erin is also from Earth, and is a daughter of Queen Madison. She is familiar with travel between Earth and Faeland. This princess is ruler of Erlund.

Jayla Elmroot?

Jayla serves as the captain of the Royal Guard in Misthaven, and is tasked with the protection of Queen Madison. She is stronger than most tieflings, red-headed, and well trained in melee weapons.

Princess Clover

Also the daughter of Queen Madison, she is familiar with the portals between Earth and Faeland. She is ruler of the halflings of Clover Cove.

Selene

Selene is one of the most powerful sorcerers in Alara, and one of Queen Madison’s most important allies.
